ServiceM8 alternative

Door Ops vs ServiceM8
for door contractors.

ServiceM8 is an iPhone-first job app for small trade businesses, priced by how many jobs you create each month rather than by user. Door Ops charges per seat and spends that on door work: door presets, a QR asset register, PPM and RAMS. If your team lives on iPhones and runs mixed callouts, read the ServiceM8 column carefully.

Short version

  • ServiceM8 charges by job volume, £25 to £269 a month with unlimited users on paid plans. Door Ops charges per engineer and office seat, so a small door team usually pays ServiceM8 less.
  • ServiceM8’s full app is built for iPhone and iPad; Android gets a lighter app for technicians. Door Ops runs in the phone browser on either and is not a native app.
  • ServiceM8 forms come from its Form Store or a builder on Growing and above. Door Ops ships door service sheets, RAMS and a PPM planner for door contracts.

The features a door company actually uses.

Not a 200-row feature grid. The twelve things that decide whether the office chases the job sheet or reads it.

Honest answer

When ServiceM8 is the better fit

  • Your engineers all carry iPhones and want a polished native iOS app, with offline working and Apple CarPlay.
  • You have a growing office team. ServiceM8 does not charge per user on paid plans, so a fifth or tenth login costs nothing.
  • Most of your work is quick reactive callouts rather than contracts, and a job-credit allowance fits how you bill.
  • You want invoices and payments syncing to Xero or QuickBooks today, not an API hand-off.

Where Door Ops wins

When Door Ops is the better fit

  • Your engineers carry Android phones. Door Ops is the same product on any phone; ServiceM8 keeps its full feature set for iPhone.
  • You want door service sheets and RAMS from day one, not forms bought one at a time or built on a higher plan.
  • You look after doors on contract and need a QR-labelled asset register with a PPM planner, not just recurring jobs.
  • You hand jobs to subcontractors and want them to fill in the same worksheet by secure link, without an app install.

Still on a calendar and the notes app?

Most door firms are not switching from software at all.

Ask a door engineers group what they run jobs on and the honest answers are a phone calendar, the Notes app and a WhatsApp group for quotes and measures. That works until the third engineer, or the customer who asks what you found last time. Door Ops keeps your calendar and Xero, and gives every job one record: customer, quote, drawings, RAMS, photos, worksheet and the PDF you sent.

Migration

Switching from ServiceM8

Keep ServiceM8 running while you try Door Ops. Nothing here asks you to cut over on day one.

  1. 1There is no ServiceM8 connector. ServiceM8 exports your client list to CSV through its Advanced Reporting Pack add-on; bring that into Door Ops from Settings with the customer and site import template.
  2. 2Old jobs and invoices can go into the structured export archive under Settings, Integrations, where they stay encrypted and searchable until you decide what to map.
  3. 3Start new visits on a Door Ops door preset and keep ServiceM8 on its Free plan or a lower tier until the last open jobs close.

Common questions

Is ServiceM8 cheaper than Door Ops?

For most small teams, yes. ServiceM8 charges per account by jobs created: £59 a month covers 150 jobs with unlimited users. Door Ops charges £45 per engineer and £22 per office user monthly at standard rates, or £39 / £19 for eligible founders. What the extra buys is door-specific: presets, RAMS, a QR asset register and a PPM planner.

Does ServiceM8 work on Android?

Partly. ServiceM8’s full app is built for iPhone and iPad; ServiceM8 Lite for Android covers schedules, job details and checklists, and ServiceM8 itself recommends iPhones for main technicians. Door Ops runs in the browser on either and can be added to the home screen.

Does Door Ops have a native app like ServiceM8?

No. Door Ops is a web app. Worksheet progress survives a dropped signal, but it is not an offline-first native app, and ServiceM8’s iOS app is the stronger phone experience.

Can I move my ServiceM8 customers into Door Ops?

Yes, by spreadsheet. Export your client list to CSV with the ServiceM8 Advanced Reporting Pack add-on and import it from Door Ops Settings. There is no direct ServiceM8 connector.

Where are these ServiceM8 facts from?
